Reading segment data
Business segments
Revenue split by line of business, as the company reports it: a cement maker with a power plant and an auto assembler, a bank's corporate and retail arms. It shows what actually drives the top line.
Geographic segments
Revenue split by where it is earned: Pakistan against exports, or by region. For exporters and companies with foreign operations it is the clearest view of currency exposure.

What is segment reporting?
The breakdown of a company's revenue by line of business or by geography, disclosed in its annual accounts. It shows which parts of a company earn its revenue.
What is the difference between business and geographic segments?
Business segments split revenue by what the company sells; geographic segments split it by where it sells. Many companies report both.
